As an ardent fan of The Revivalists since 2010--when I fortuitously stumbled upon one of their shows on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans on an oppressively hot Saturday night in August--this album makes me very happy. By and large, the songs on Take Good Care are merrier than the songs on Men Amongst Mountains (with a few exceptions). Where Men Amongst Mountains is moodier and edgy (and one of my all-time favorite albums), Take Good Care is more buoyant. The shift in tone might be jarring for those who aren't able to see The Revivalists live consistently, or for those hoping for a duplication of MAM, but I find The Revivalists' ability to pull off both sounds impressive--and it is something not many bands/songwriters can do, and do well.
The album is a pleasure to listen to, start to finish, and it commands repeated listens. I probably prefer the more raw production of MAM, but I also can't blame the band for wanting to explore. Even when I first listened to MAM, it was an adjustment hearing studio versions of live favorites, and not all the songs spoke to me at first. On TGC, immediate standouts for me (excluding the pre-released songs) were You Said It All, Oh No, and Celebration. Other songs I initially felt lukewarm about I have since warmed up to, such as Next To You and Other Side of Paradise. In my opinion, the band's roots are still on full display here, and this album is a welcome addition to The Revivalists' varied repertoire.
The Downward Spiral
Second release in a row that misses the mark. Was introduced to them a few years ago. Never took such a liking to a band only to lose all interest in such a short time. Give me more Purple Heart and less Wish I knew You. You want real rock listen to The Record Company.
Not great.. it’s a step backwards for sure. Sound has changed. Producer should be fired immediately. Vocals are echoed too much and it’s just too chaotic. Strip it down and come raw, that’d be better than this trash. Love them, but this missed the bus.
I have been a fan from the beginning. This is my favorite album.
I am crazy about this album! So many good songs and Shaw’s voice sounds beautiful! The first track is haunting and beautiful! Next To You is my new favorite driving song!!
A great album for all
There are sounds in this album for everyone ranging from hard rock to pop. Any song on this album could’ve been their next big hit, “All my friends” “ other side of paradise” and “change” are awesome songs that prove the revivalists have depth and can continue to make music for years to come.
A Step Backwards
Though there are some good tracks on here, for the most part this is a huge step backwards from the sound that made them so good. The soulsy, bluesy sound is gone from most of the album, and it sorta sounds like a band searching for a sound instead of one that had formulated one over their past efforts. It's an odd album to say the least...
Song of the year
Great all around album, celebration is the song of the year for me so far!
I wanted to like this so badly. Unfortunately they lost there sound. Every song on here is generic and poppy. I still love the revivalist but I will stick to the older music.
I haven’t finished listening to this album yet but, it is obviously is amazing! Apple could add to their trillions, whaaaat.?! HA 😆 $7.99?!?? Deal of the century!! The Revivalists are the embodiment of feeling alive!!! That dance though...love, love, love
