Now you KNOW theQueen had to have a take on The Lord's Day - Amen!
I got Angels We Have Heard on High and I'm enjoying it. I admit it's mushy in places and difficult to understand (and my 11 year old said, "Mommy, she's jazzing it up too much!), but I still like it. It's not her best work, that's true, and perhaps I just like the song...I don't know... I can see why folks are disappointed. It's not what we're used to hearing from The Queen.
Smh mmm mmm mmm that's all i need to say. Please dnt waste your money.
"QUEEN OF SOUL", she'll always be!!!

For starters, I'm rating Aretha, not the album. For being 68 yrs. old, this woman is REMARKABLE! I've always loved Aretha, and always will. She puts so much soul, so much heart, so much dedication into her music, its just unfathomable. Theres alot of great artists/singers out there, but no one, i mean, NO ONE, could hold a candle to Aretha. I absolutely CANNOT believe that this woman, almost 70 yrs. old, is STILL gettin it. In my eyes, she'll always be the BEST! You go, girl!!!
You know that sound...
So, you know when a car has a broken window, and the person who owns the car doesn't have enough insurance to fix the window, so instead, the person buys some duct tape and sticks some clear packaging plastic to window? And you know how, when a person fixes his or her car window in this manner and then leaves it like that for months while driving all over the place, the plastic ends up ripping somewhere and causing a horrible plastic-y vibrating noise when the car goes faster than 60 mph? That exact noise is what Aretha sounds like on this album.
This Christmas Aretha

I don't get the negative comments! This is pure joy! It took me out of a major production studio and sat me in front of a fireplace with the Queen (to which r-e-s-p-e-c-t is earned and owed) singing intimately to a small gathering of her closest friends. I appreciated the timeless voice as she rolled notes with the fire crackling behind her. I am warmed by this CD and I am honored that this gift was given to us by our Queen!

I got "Angels We Have Heard On High" from the free iTunes Christmas sampler, and when I heard it, I wondered who was singing! I've heard Aretha Franklin, and this is not her. Maybe she just had a bad day.
People have to understand Aretha doesn't sound the same as she may have 40+ years ago. Musicans voices change. So this album may not be up to everryone's "standards" but Aretha did her thing. So to those that don't like it she can't please everybody so cool it with the harsh words.
Not her best work
I love Aretha, but this was a disappointment. For those reviewers attributing this to her "failing voice the last few years" it is interesting to note that this album was produced 10 years ago! It just isn't a great work. Everybody has them
Detroit soul shes got it!
